Description:The internship will provide front-line experience in urban commercial district revitalization and community and economic development on one of Philadelphia’s most diverse and historic main streets. The intern will have an opportunity to work on four interrelated activities: *Design: addressing the district's physical design needs through façade and streetscape improvement and crime prevention design *Promotion: marketing and branding the district to attract more customers *Economic Structuring: supporting existing businesses and identifying and attracting new and viable economic uses *Crime and Public Safety: educating merchants about public safety issues and building relationships between the business community and the police department The specific duties are contingent upon the skills, interests and experience of the intern and may include: *Working with business owners, government agencies, architects and contractors to facilitate physical improvement projects *Developing print and electronic marketing materials and newsletters *Providing technical assistance to small business owners on issues such as zoning, permitting and licensing and financing *Collecting organizing and analyzing empirical data and information related to marketing, policy, planning and administrative law/process issues * Developing relationships with area merchants and residents, community organizations and local government agencies *Coordinating special projects and events Qualifications *Undergraduate or graduate student with ability to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week *Knowledge of or interest in economic development principles and issues *Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills *Flexibility, creativity and initiative *Ability to work independently and in teams *Respect for limited English proficiency speakers *Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, French or Spanish language skills is a plus Application instructions:To apply: Submit a cover letter and resume to Melissa J.
