This summer the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service, in partnership with
Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, is looking for a team of dedicated volunteers to help pilot a 6 week
Environmental Education program in 8 different Recreation Centers throughout North Philadelphia. The six
weeks starts July 5th and runs through August 12th.
We are recruiting volunteers to assist lead facilitators in activities designed to educate youth about the
fundamentals of soil, water, trees, and recycling. The time commitment for volunteers will be twice a week
for two hours each day, for a total of 4 hours per week. Volunteers will be asked to commit to a block of
time in the morning or afternoon during either a Monday-Wednesday pairing or a Tuesday-Thursday pairing.
Volunteers will also need to attend one of the following mandatory trainings:
Tuesday, June 21st at Room 112 City Hall from 5:30PM to 7:00PM.
Tuesday, June 28th at Location TBD from 5:30PM to 7:00PM
This is a tremendous opportunity for volunteers looking to gain experience working with youth, educating
others about environmental stewardship, collaborating with a team, and helping establish a program that
wouldn’t be possible without volunteer support!
Recreation Centers featuring this exciting pilot program this summer include:
Amos Playground (16th and Berks), Marie Dendy Playground (10th and Jefferson), Roberto Clemente
Playground (18th and Wallace), Athletic Recreation Center (26th and Master), Hank Gathers Recreation
Center (25th and Diamond), Hunting Park Recreation Center (9th and Hunting Park)
If you are interested call Project Coordinator Jon Tehrani at 267-402-7974 to register.
NOTE: This is a position that involves direct contact and mentorship of youth and completion of a Child
Abuse Clearance and Criminal Background check will be required.
