Function: New Kensington Community Development Corporation believes healthy, vibrant communities are organized, have strong community networks and strong resident leadership. We aim to empower residents through an active, informed and self-sufficient citizenry.

Reports To: Director of Community Engagement

Duties: New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) is seeking an intern to help with neighborhood sustainability and food justice projects. Responsibilities include helping coordinate the weekly distribution of low-cost local food boxes, managing the program’s social media outlets (blog, Facebook, and Twitter), researching and writing for the biweekly newsletter, tabling and public speaking, photographing events, and creating flyers.

Qualifications: We are looking for a self-motivated individual who works well in a team setting. Interest in and knowledge of sustainability is highly preferred. Strong writing and public speaking skills desired. Familiarity and experience with social media outlets desired. Design skills and knowledge of Microsoft Publisher a plus.

Hours: 8-10 hours per week. Commitment is through the end of the spring semester (June 2012).

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship with opportunity for course credit.
