Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern
The City of Philadelphia’s Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking academic interns to perform GIS work on several ongoing projects. Interns would work closely with staff from Parks and Recreation to assist with a variety of duties including data creation and management, cartographic design, and geographic analysis. The position is office based but may also include some field work in the park system. These opportunities are non-paying, academic internships that require a minimum of 20 hours per week service. Applicants must be available for an internship with a minimum of 12 weeks.
Applicant must be experienced in the use and operation of ESRI ArcGIS 10 and Microsoft Office; the methods, techniques and procedures used in the planning, design, maintenance, and production of geographic data and graphics; the principles, practices, and methods used in geographic data analysis. Interns must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and apply geographic principles and practices to the maintenance of a geodatabase. Applicant must be willing to work outside occasionally.
